Is the man in red seen beating Jamia students in police gear an ABVP member?
The Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad has refuted claims by netizens on Twitter calling the man seen in a video beating Jamia students is one of their members
With raging protests against the Citizenship Amendment Act in the NorthEast, New Delhi, and other parts of the country, social media has been abuzz with numerous videos, photos and tweets. However, some unverified tweets, photos and videos have also trickled into the streams attempting to spread fake news.
One such video from the day of the protests at the Jamia Millia Islamia University in Delhi, has piqued the interest of people online. A video of the Delhi Police thrashing a male student of the varsity while five women try to protect him went viral. In the video, the women formed a shield and covered their friend, as the cops continued to thrash them.
As can be seen in the video, two cops were armed with heavy wooden lathis, and another man wearing a red shirt and helmet also seen hitting the students made people concoct several theories about who he was. Netizens widely shared the photo and at first, someone alleged that the guy in the red shirt was a 'BJP goon' because he is seen wearing a orange/red shirt. People on social media questioned the Delhi Police asking whether he was part of the team and why he was attacking the students.
