

The Department of School Education and Literacy under the Ministry of Education has selected a total of 48 school teachers across the country for the prestigious National Teachers Awards 2026. The award is for teachers recognising their contribution to improving school education and making a difference to the lives of their students.
President Droupadi Murmu will confer the National Teachers Awards 2026 on September 5, observed as Teachers' Day in India, at Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi.
48 teachers selected
The Centre has selected 48 teachers from 27 states, seven Union Territories and six Central government organisations. According to the official sources, out of the 48 teachers, 26 are men and 22 are women. The shortlisted teachers are from different types of institutions, including Kendriya Vidyalayas, Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas, Sainik Schools, PM SHRI Schools and other schools run by or supported by the Central government.

The award ceremony will take place on September 5 at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi. The event will witness a short documentaries highlighting the exemplary work of each awardee. Eligible teachers were invited to submit online self-nominations between June 15 and July 20 through the Ministry of Education's dedicated portal for National Teachers Awards 2026. The teachers were shortlisted based on a three-stage selection process at the district, state and national levels.
