The University Grants Commission has issued a letter to the Vice-Chancellors of all Universities and Principals of all Colleges about the government’s recently launched Jan Andolan campaign for the spread of awareness of COVID-19. The campaign was launched on October 8 by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

According to the letter, it is a low-cost, high-intensity campaign, driven by people's participation in dissemination throughout the country using all social media platforms. The campaign emphasis is on ‘Unlock with Precautions’ and the three key messages are — Wear masks, follow physical distancing and maintain hand hygiene.

With regard to this, the UGC has directed all administrations to display, posters, billboards and banners in all prominent locations, institution websites and social media. The letter also said that there were two creatives — in Hindi and in English that the institutes can use. The UGC has also asked for the facilitation of a pledge within the coming week by staff, faculty and students of the institutions.

The institutes also have to upload their action report on the UGC’s University activity monitoring portal.
