Two University of Hyderabad (UoH) faculty from the Department of English secured top ranks in ''Arts and Humanities Research in India, South Asia'' , according to a report released recently by the Centre for Publication Ethics, Savitribai Phule Pune University.

The Report is based on a scrutiny of articles in journals and book chapters across 5484 publications (India), 6233 (South Asia) and 34907 (East Asia) in the fields of literature, history, language, philosophy, indexed in the highly respected Web of Science database for the years 1989-2020, UoH said in a release here on Tuesday.

Earlier, Professor K Narayana Chandran from UoH, was ranked No 1 in India and South Asia, at 9 in South and East Asia (which includes China, Japan and Singapore, ranked by QS among the top research nations in the region) while another Professor Pramod K Nayar of the same Department was at 3 in India and South Asia and at 18 in South and East Asia.

Having discovered anomalies in author names and affiliations indexed in the database, the Centre revised its 2019 report. The latest shows Professor K Narayana is ranked 1 in India and South Asia and he is at 4 in South and East Asia retaining his position, where as Prof. Pramod K Nayar is at 2nd position in India and at 7th position in South and East Asia.

In a statement, UoH Vice-Chancellor Prof Appa Rao Podile, expressing his delight at the revised report and the distinction of the two Faculties, reiterated that this proves that research at UoH is of the very highest order. He added that such reports would enable the university to identify its signature areas of research for strengthening under the Institution of Eminence project.
