BHU prof Rama Shanker Dubey appointed VC of the Central University of Gujarat

The order issued MHRD stated the appointment for a term of five years from the date on which he enters the office, or until he attains the age of 70 years, whichever is earlier

Rama Shanker Dubey, Professor, Department of Biochemistry, Institute of Science at Banaras Hindu University, has been appointed Vice-Chancellor of Central University of Gujarat (CUG). He will succeed Prof Syed Abdul Bari who held the post as the CUG V-C since August 2014.

He has served as a member in Expert Panel for Merit and Normal Assessment Scheme for Centre for Biochemical Technology (CBT), Delhi, during 1996-1997. He has also served as a Member of Executive Committee of The Indian Society for Agricultural Biochemists during 1995-97 and is currently serving as a member of executive committee from the year 2002. He also has several books to his credit for which he had also been a recipient of the Top Ten Most Cited Author Award for the period 2003-2008, by Elsevier Publications, Amsterdam.

The order issued on Tuesday by the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) stated the appointment for a term of five years from the date on which he enters the office, or until he attains the age of 70 years, whichever is earlier.

With nearly 38 years of experience in research, Prof Rama Shanker Dubey is the second professor from BHU to take over as vice-chancellor of a university in Gujarat. Professor Dubey has conducted extensive studies on soil salinity, water stress and metal toxicity induced key metabolic alterations in rice plants during his time as a faculty at BHU.
