TN government's educational channel Kalvi Tholaikatchi starts broadcast

The channel is expected to be inaugurated by the CM Edpadi K Palanisamy in the first week of June

TN government's educational TV channel Kalvi Tholaikatchi started its trial telecast at 12 pm on Thursday through the TN Arasu Cable TV Corporation (TACTV). According to education department officials, the late CM Jayalalithaa announced this channel's broadcast in 2014. The government had also allotted Rs 2 crore to create a studio at the 8th floor of the Anna Centenary Memorial Library, at Chennai. 

The channel is expected to be inaugurated by the CM Edpadi K Palanisamy in the first week of June. The programmes will begin at 5 am with Kuralin Kural (Thirukkural) and it will be followed by Inda Naal Iniya Naal at 5.15 am. Then various schools, education, students related programmes, interviews of resource persons, experts, etc will be telecast till 1 pm. Then for the next 2 hours, subject wise programme for the students of 1-5th on Monday, 6-8th on Tuesday, 9-10 on Wednesday, plus 2 on Thursday would be telecast. O

The schools are instructed to buy 55000 LED TVs by using the funds of the PTA or school monitoring fund or SSA fund. The TACTV is now visiting the schools to provide Set Top boxes to start the programmes. At the same time, steps are on to link the channel with satellite to help all other cable TV, DTH operators to show the programme to their customers. The state school education secretary Pradeep Yadav and the Director of School Education Rameswara Murugan will head the channel. The Chief Media co-ordinator of the channel is Amalan Jeron. 

In the districts, one media co-ordinator among school teachers was already posted and under them, 2 assistant media co-ordinators, who are also teachers, are appointed in each block.
