Very soon the Ministry of Human Resource and Development may cease to exist under the Government of India. If the new cabinet acts upon the Modi Government's New Draft National Education Policy 2019, the MHRD, it will be replaced by the Ministry of Education (MoE).

The policy was formed by an 11-member team, which was headed by the former ISRO Chairman K Kasturirangan. It was submitted to the new HRD Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank on Friday, a few hours after he took charge. The committee was constituted in June 2017. The policy that is said to be inspired by India's heritage, presents 'A vision for the education system in India'.

"In order to bring the focus back on education and learning, the MHRD will be redesignated as the Ministry of Education (MoE)," it reads. It is also said to complement the soon to be formed Rashtriya Shiksha Aayog. " The existing functions and roles within the present MHRD (and related ministries) will be reviewed, mapped, and harmonised with the RSA for complementarity, including the roles and responsibilities of its support structures and teams," reads the policy.
