JNU post-grad student hangs himself in common study room, students shocked

A JNU student allegedly committed suicide Friday by hanging himself from a ceiling fan in a study room of the university, police said.

They said they were informed about the incident around 11.30 am. The MA 2nd year student, identified as Rishi Joshua (24), was rushed to a nearby hospital where the doctors declared him brought dead, a senior police officer added. Police and crime team are at the spot and further details are awaited.

A junior research fellow at JNU posted a reaction to the incident saying, "It's very shocking and frustrating to hear that a JNU student from M.A. English department has committed suicide in SLL&CS, JNU. In this time of sorrow and grief, we as JNUites firmly stand physically and emotionally with the family and friends of the victim."
