Three BTech students caught with 10 kg ganja, police say they smuggled to pay for luxurious lifestyle

The police on Wednesday arrested three students who were allegedly transporting cannabis in a car from Araku Valley to Visakhapatnam.

Kothavalasa Circle Inspector S Srinivas Rao said, "The police has arrested three BTech students and seized 10-kilogram ganja, three cell phones and a new Ford car."

"The students, Ch Rahul Reddy, K Sai Sumanth and B Sai Kiran, hail from Guntur district. They are addicted to luxuries and started ganja smuggling to make more money easily," the police added.

In another major crackdown on the illicit narcotics trade, Haryana Police arrested three persons and seized 713 kilograms of ganja being smuggled in a canter in Palwal district.

He said that a CIA team, which was present at Agra Chowk, Palwal, received information about drug smuggling. The team immediately swung into action and put blockade near Likhi Chowk, Hasanpur. When police team signaled the drivers of a canter and car escorting it coming from Hodal to stop, both accelerated the vehicles and tried to run away. Upon search, ganja packed in 36 bags weighing 713 kilogram was recovered from the canter bearing Haryana registration number. The arrested accused have been identified as Rajesh of Khenwara, Dinesh of Dhateer and Pratap of Likhi.

A case under the provisions of NDPS Act had been registered at Hasanpur police station against the accused, who will be taken on police remand for interrogation to ascertain details of others involved in ganja smuggling racket.
