An engineering student, a native of Jammu & Kashmir, who was studying at the Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University, Hyderabad was traced at Balasore railway station in Odisha two days after he went missing from the college hostel.

Amit Kanwal Pandita had less attendance in the semester, due to which he was allegedly scared that he will not be allowed to appear for the semester examination and went missing, said the police.According to police, analysis of the CCTV cameras found that Amit travelled to Secunderabad railway station, from where he started for Kolkata. It is suspected that he could have travelled till Vijayawada from Secunderabad and shifted to another train to continue his journey to Kolkata.

Even as police formed search teams to trace him, his friends came to know that he was travelling to Kolkata and alerted the police and his family members. Amit's father, Kanwal Pandita, alerted his friend at Odisha, who then contacted Amit and met him at Balasore railway station. Amit reportedly told his father's friends that he had less attendance score in the semester, due to which he will not be able to appear for the semester examination as per the rules.

Fearing loss of examination, he decided to go home and left from the hostel on Tuesday afternoon. However, after reaching Secunderabad, he decided to travel to Kolkata first and go home from there. Officials from KPHB police station said that as per the last reports, his father is travelling to Kolkata, where his friends would handover Amit to him. Later they will go home, they said. "We will get to know more details only after recording his statement," they added.
