With the ever-growing scope of the Indian economy and the increasing demand of capable human resources under the various business sectors, giving rise to the need of having more women taking up the various roles in the industries. Recognising this fact, the Vadodara based Parul University has taken the active step towards promoting gender balance at the workplace, through a one day National Seminar on “Gender Stereotyping And Occupational Choices: Women In India”. The conference, being held on the 9th of March, is a product of the joint efforts of Parul Institute of Law, acting in collaboration with the National Commission For Women, New Delhi. A national body striving towards enabling women to archive equality and equal participation in all spheres of life.

As the chief guests to this occasion, the conference will be hosting two of India’s leading and exceptional female personalities, including the founder of Yourdost Richa Singh, along with Dr Flavia Agnes, a prominent legal personality. Ruchi Singh an IIT Guwahati alumnus, was the brainchild of the Yourdost.com an online emotional support system where people suffering, from depression among other mental health-related issues, have been receiving help from experts. The success of this ever-growing initiative is seen through the outstanding impact by stopping over 70 000 people from committing suicide. Also to note Dr Agnes, will be gracing this seminar, the MAJLIS NGO founder, will be taking the platform to share her various contributions in the legal fraternity, towards women’s rights, in her constant fight against social ills. Ever since the foundation of her NGO in 1990, her centre has been offering legal assistance to over  50,000 women along with offering consultancy to over 150,000 women. The presence of these notable figures in the seminar will go a long way in motivating the female students and staff members of Parul University, during this idea sharing platform.

From the date of its inception in 2016, the Institute of Law under Parul University has made vast contributions to the social, academic and legal field through the organising of various distinct State, National and International level events and programs. The multidisciplinary Institution has taken various academic and social based initiatives in the areas of labour laws, child rights, Intellectual property, constitutional awareness, and in addition to these, it has now taken the initiative of organising this yet to be held National Seminar. As topics of discussion, various research papers will be presented in the areas of educational enrolment, gender policies, gender stereotyped jobs and women and career stability. These topics will go a long way in shedding the light on various gender-related issues, as well as propagating the need for gender equality amongst the students of Parul University.

“Putting together such a seminar is what I believe to be a social obligation we owe to the society as academicians. The youth are the future of our nation, therefore it is our responsibility to ensure that they are fully exposed and updated in all the areas regarding our social welfare. I believe this seminar will be a vital tool for propelling all the students of Parul Institute of Law and Parul University as a whole to take an active role in seeking solutions to some of the gender-related issues”, said Dr Akil Saiyed, Dean of Parul University’s Law faculty.
