Fact check: Viral Jamia student Aysha Renna isn't the Hijab-clad girl with Rahul Gandhi
Fake news peddlers could not keep calm when the photograph and news about the Jamia Millia Islamia student Aysha Renna went viral. Many lauded her courage, while others were quick to tag her an anti-national and a propaganda artist.
Some even said that Renna is a close aide of Rahul Gandhi's and claimed that photographs to prove the same. The widely shared photograph shows a Hijab-wearing, spectacle-wearing girl standing next to Rahul Gandhi on stage. However, that girl isn't Renna.
She is Safa Febin, a class XII student from GHSS Karuvarakkundu. On December 5, when Rahul Gandhi had gone to her school to inaugurate a new block, this 17-year-old helped the MP translate his speech from English to Malayalam.

Social media was quick to circulate this image without fact-checking. For instance, consider this:
The following picture's caption loosely translates to "This is that girl, who is present at very riot."
After Safa's translation, Rahul Gandhi had put up a Facebook post with the video saying, "Safa Febin, a talented young student at GHSS Karuvarakkundu volunteered to translate my speech this morning. Her confidence and 'can-do spirit' won our hearts."
Facebook users had also tried to establish that Renna is a close aide of Barkha Dutt's. However, the photograph that is being widely circulated is from the journalist's interview of Renna on December 16.
