The Madras High Court has recommended to the government to consider having a uniform syllabus throughout the country. The bench observed that the introduction of a uniform syllabus should be considered so that one group of students do not have a march over the other group of students because of their syllabus instead of their intelligence.
"It is high time that the government introspect the need to make the syllabus uniform across various boards throughout the country", observed the Madras High Court, while giving series of suggestions to the government, teachers and parents in helping students to avoid mental stress.
The Judges further suggested the government provide uniform access to knowledge for students of all sections of the economy by creating a centralised digital database of online materials for all streams and levels of education. They also advised the headmasters of all schools to keep track of the students who pass Class X or XII from their schools to ensure that they join higher education. Further recommendations were made to establish mobile counselling centres with dedicated helplines in all districts to enable students and parents to approach for psychological help.
The order came in response to a habeas corpus petition seeking to trace a 19-year-old girl who fled home in the fear of being scolded by her parents over poor performance in the examination. While closing the said petition, the Judges formed a committee to suggest ideas to improve emotional well being and academic performance of students, and based on the same the above recommendations were made.
