A few days ago, a circular issued by the Central University of Gujarat, that allegedly restricted political activities on campus had created a lot of hue and cry among students and student political organisations. A few days since, the university has issued a new circular saying that the guidelines mentioned in the old one were meant on a different political context and that there is no regulation for political activity on campus.

"They (guidelines) were not meant for the regulation of students' activities in university as a general rule," reads the circular, issued on August 23. "Though administrative approval is necessary for every activity that students, faculty and employees organise on campus is required, there is no ban or restriction of any kind that the students seek to organise in the university," it reads. Previously, the university's Vice-Chancellor had also told us the same over an email.

The students' council and the other student political organisations expressed their happiness over the new circular. "We are extremely happy. This is a result of our struggle," says Raghu Solanki, a member of the Students' Council. "Revolutionary greetings to the students and Comrades of Gujarat Central University," reads an SFI statement. "Following the signs of an uncompromising student resistance being built up, today the Gujarat Central University administration issued another circular stating the earlier guidelines are kept in abeyance," it reads.
