A panchayat elementary school principal's vision to provide her students with comfort turned positive when a couple donated two air-conditioners to the school in this district. The government elementary school, with nearly 106 students from class 1-5, at Melur near Annavasal has been serving the students from Melur and adjoining villages for 64-years.

Two air-conditioned classrooms were recently constructed and sub-collector MK Sarayu, Pudukkottai, inaugurated the classrooms. " Most of the parents are considering that the private schools can only teach their children how to lead a prosperous life. The truth is not like that. Government school children can learn the ups and downs of life through education," she elaborated.

"From the beginning of my service in this school, I noticed that the government school students had yearned for school van and other facilities which are enjoying by the private schools. Following which, I posted my appeal for donors to improve the facilities at our school on my facebook page. One of my relatives T Justine Thiraviya Alangaram and his wife Priya Justine from Bangalore came forward to offer air condition facility to two classrooms. Subsequently, we have established the two classrooms at the cost of  Rs one lakh thanks to their generosity.

We have an LCD projector to show scientific and informative films to students," she added. During the occasion, S Gunasekarn, district elementary education officers, parents and social activists from the village felicitated the donor couple. According to the villagers, only 43 students were studying at the school when Christy took charge as headmistress a decade ago. Today, a total of 106 students are studying thanks to her dedicated service, they said proudly.
