Book lovers, listen up

For book lovers, all roads will lead to the Maruti Garden function hall in Hyderabad as the New-Delhi based start-up Kitablovers is coming to town for the first time. From December 19 to 22, bookworms will have the chance to grab pre-owned books at discounted prices. Just grab a box, pay for it and fill it with as many books as you can at the Load The Box Kitablovers Warehouse Sale! You don't have to pay for individual books. "Imagine, a box of Rs 1,000 can be filled with 10-14 books which will easily cost much more than Rs 1,000," says RK Shanker, one of the five co-founders of Kitablovers and informs that there are three different sizes of boxes available at their event.

Don't go by the cover
When Shanker saw that at book fairs, people picked up books depending on its price, not content, he felt that this was a need that needs to be addressed. So they began by registering their company on February 14, 2019 , "Yes, you can go ahead and laugh on the date," says Shanker jovially. The idea of providing books at a discounted price had been brewing in their minds for over a year before they even registered the company. And since RK Shanker has been working in the books industry for over ten years, he uses his contacts to acquire books at a lower price, they also buy at specialised book fairs and fly in pre-owned books from abroad for their collection.

Grab 'em all
While there are other start-ups offering the 'box model' Kitablovers prides itself over the fact that their books are a class-apart and chosen carefully. And they have been taking these books across India, to cities, beginning from Chennai, Bengaluru, Coimbatore, Jaipur, Ajmer, Patna, Kolkata and their next stop is Hyderabad with Vijayawada and Visakhapatnam soon to follow. How has the response been to their sale in other cities, we wonder. "Absolutely amazing!" exclaims Shanker and adds, "We have had book lovers queue up before we even begin for the day and it's an absolute delight to see this kind of response."

For now, their focus is to set up sales around India and start selling their books online soon.
