It's been 25 years since Apollo Institute of Hospital Administration came into existence and indeed, this year, they are gearing up for their silver jubilee celebrations. Located in the premises of Apollo Hospitals in Jubilee Hills, Apollo Institute of Hospital Administration was launched in 1994 to train students as per the market requirement and impart practical training. Apart from describing the progress of the institute, Dr D Shree Devi, Professor and Principal of the institute, tells us what they have in store for their 25th anniversary celebrations and what the future looks like for them. Excerpts:

Looking back, how has the journey been?
We have trained more than 1,000 students from different backgrounds like MBBS, Ayurveda, Nursing and more. We are happy to announce that we have 100% placement every year. Students are selected by IT companies like Dell, Deloitte, Accenture, insurance companies like Reliance General Insurance, ICICI Lombard, home care brands like Portea Medical and Apollo HomeCare, and even by hospitals like KIMS, Care Hospitals and our very own Apollo Hospitals. Our students are present in over 40 countries and hence, the journey has been fabulous.

What does the future look like?
We want to become a private university, currently, we are affiliated to Osmania University. We are already a private university in Chittoor (Apollo Institute of Medical Sciences and Research). We wish to design our own programmes as per the industry needs and offer diploma, certificate and other value-added courses for students.

What kind of celebrations are in order this year?
We are chalking out an alumni meet where students can share their experience of studying with us. A two-day seminar on a topic that is relevant to the healthcare industry is also in the works. A book and a brochure launch might be on the cards too.

What is one myth around a Hospital Administration course that you would like to bust?
I'd like to bust the myth that it's a specialised programme for those from the healthcare industry alone. Through this course, students will be exposed to the various managerial skills required to manage a hospital and its various dimensions like HR, quality control and so on, and not just for those with a background in healthcare.

Numbers game
1994 - It was started in 1994
