There are lots of eco-friendly projects that are literally putting Raipur on the map. The one that really caught our fancy is Nalanda Parisar, which is an Oxy Reading Zone, a 6-acre lush, green property for students to study, read, network and work on projects, either individually or in groups. Raipur’s District Collector OP Choudhary conceptualised this whole park and in a deviation from the Indian standard, the project was completed one month ahead of schedule.

The Oxy-Reading Zone is located on GE Road, in the middle of the education hub of the city with NIT, Science College, Ayurvedic College, and AIIMS in the vicinity. The area also houses thousands of students from across Chhattisgarh living in hostels and PGs. "The idea was to create a learning environment for students equipped with a Youth Tower and recreational facilities. The youth needed an interactive environment to study and the initiatives of district administration weren’t limited to just a reading facility but a state-of-the-art facility operating 24/7, with a knowledge bank and a natural environment for the mental and physical development of young minds," explains OP Choudhary.

A green hub for students: The Oxy-Reading Zone is located on GE Road

The Youth Tower has a capacity of 1700 seats and the central library can hold up to 600 people and will have ambient natural light. A number of open areas, trees having medicinal and aromatic values, trails, an open-air gym and a pond provide a tranquil environment for students. The presence of basketball court, a cafeteria, a bookstore, a bank, a medical store, a stationery shop, a sports goods outlet and an electronic store create the perfect ecosystem for learning and interacting in the lap of nature.

"Nalanda Parisar ensures a place for everyone with high aspirations and a thirst for knowledge. It’s a door to wisdom from which one can shape one’s future. Earlier, due to the lack of such facilities in the state, students used to move to Delhi for few years for preparing for competitive exams, but it was restricted to students from a good financial background. But with the advent of Nalanda Parisar in the city, it gave them an opportunity to prepare from home leading to a reduction in the family expenditure. Besides, several coaching institutes like Vision IAS from Delhi have been invited to deliver preparation strategies, motivation lectures etc," says Choudhary. He adds that the facility is accessible to any student irrespective of class, caste, and creed.

WiFi enabled: The campus has a dedicated BSNL line that ensures 100 Mbps speed for 125 computers

As far as costing is concerned, a student whose family is below the Poverty Line will have to pay a nominal fee of Rs 200 per month, while it is Rs 500 for others. There is a caution deposit of Rs 2000, which is refundable.

Here's what makes Nalanda Parisar super-unique:

· It boasts of a Youth tower, Gazebo, interactive zones, pond, canal, facility plaza and rooftop reading facility
· It is equipped with a SCADA system which ensures 24/7 electricity supply — which is a first for the state
· It also has a dedicated BSNL line that ensures 100 Mbps internet speed for 125 computers, besides being completely WiFi enabled
