It's been two years since home-baker Rasvin Sawhney started Pastel Baking Co. Operating out of East Marredpally in Hyderabad, her creations are famous for their taste and their neatness — both skills that require a lot of practice. And there are two people the 25-year-old thanks for these skills — her mother and the good people at White Lotus School of Cake Decoration Arts in Pune, where she went at least thrice for various baking certification courses. And after two years, she is where she is, equipped with her own 23 by 10 feet kitchen with work tables, ovens, a baking platform and more.
"The kitchen is still in my house, but is completely my space," says the St Francis College For Women alumna. Not only this, she also plans to hire a few more hands to help out with the orders and maybe even start delivery soon. With every step, she is inching closer to her ultimate dream of starting her own café. Famous for her chocolate and red velvet cakes, Rasvin says that she is obsessed with the presentation of her cakes. "I like to make neat and perfect-looking cakes, so I tend to focus a lot on the presentation," she says.
It is no wonder that each of her creations is Instagram-worthy. But because her frosting is delicate and the summer heat is a cake's enemy, there have been instances where her cakes have collapsed, but her customers have been more than understanding. After all, her loyal customers come all the way from Jubilee Hills, Uppal and other areas to get a taste of her cakes. You can expect her to start baking yummy cheesecakes (which she is particularly fond of), bread, dessert cookies and more.
