Slow Clap: Say Sayonara to Chinese names, vanakkam to our Kamalam

Dragon Fruit getting renamed as Kamalam was one of the best things that have happened in 2021. Don't trust us? Here's why
Kamalam was formerly known as dragon fruit
Kamalam was formerly known as dragon fruit

She is pinker than a Flamingo, with pretty green lines. Being slender is too mainstream for she has the curves to die for. Move aside rose, her thorns are alien to you — they don't hurt. Her taste isn't loud, neither is it sweet or sour. There stood a factor that repelled people from her, preventing them from being too close to her, her name. But thanks to Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani, she is all set for a much-deserved rebirth and acceptance. Her old name Dragon Fruit will be buried deep and from now on, she will be known as Kamalam, a perfect name for a beautiful creation.

Kamalam literally translates to 'lotus'. Inspired by Yogiji, Rupani had said that "the outer shape of the fruit resembles a lotus, hence it shall be renamed as Kamalam." We think the decision is perfect. If you have forgotten, the lotus is our national flower. Also, sources tell us that Kamalam salad will now be served at after parties held by parties.

"The name of Dragon Fruit is associated with China and we have changed it," Rupani said. Sounds good. Now, the name Kamala also means Lotus. But Rupani did not choose that. He was also quite clever in making sure that the fruit isn't associated with the new veep of the US of A too.

We're now waiting for him to rename Dumplings and Wontons as Modak Namkeen and Chowmein as Foreign Idiyappam. Wonder how Swiggy will deal with that much change, with such swiftness!

NB: Sources from the Ministry of Magic tells us that they will use Hermione's Time Turner to go back to the year 1994 and have Harry Potter grab a Kamalam egg while fighting a bunch of Kamalams.
