Oh, it was 'just a joke' was it? Well, Mr Gavaskar, it really wasn't funny!

Remember the joke former cricketer Sunil Gavaskar cracked while commentating and how it made netizens, and actor Anushka Sharma, furious? Well, this is what The Coach has to say about it

Dear Readers,

Some of the most IRRITATING sentences that I get to hear are “Don’t get me wrong” or “Don’t take this personally”. The most irritating of the lot is “Come on! It was just a joke!”. The reason why these kind of sentences make the people using them get on my nerves is simply because, in most cases, they are actually contradicting themselves or being plain HYPOCRITES!

Though this was not the case in the sudden controversy that erupted between Sunil Gavaskar and Anushka Sharma. In most cases, people start their sentences with an intention to just APPEAR POLITE but what follows is something that we find HARD TO DIGEST! Gavaskar’s comment about Virat Kohli only facing Anushka Sharma’s bowling during the lockdown, led to such a huge controversy on social media, that I felt it to be a silly point! When you read between the lines, it is subjective.

My Experience: I’ve spoken about how I’ve been BODY SHAMED numerously. Though it doesn’t bother me anymore, I’m human after all and get very irritated when some people, who are themselves obese, come to me with the intent of advising me to lose weight and say “I hope you don’t get me wrong, but it’s high time you reduced weight!”. The other thing that really gets me worked up is when people take a JAB at you and become very PERSONAL, but later term it as NOTHING BUT A JOKE after actually doing enough damage.  Simply put, people say its COMEDY but the content of the message would be like facing a TRAGEDY.
