The easiest and the most powerful way to develop your career is to focus on 'what you like' and move towards accomplishing 'what you want to be in life'. Apart from being successful, career focus can eventually enrich your life and empower your social status.

It might seem a simple and uncomplicated statement, but in the transnational and globally competitive career environment, this aspect is considered difficult by many, especially the youth and fresh graduates. Presently, the career options are rapidly moving towards micro specialisations, in which core competency will be considered essential by the job seekers. The corporate world also prefers to hire or employ individuals who have expertise in a particular area of work or someone who can command and express absolute control over their chosen field of work.

It is pertinent to point out here that the possible reasons for a candidate to fail in any competitive examinations or career selection process are a lack of focus. This social syndrome seems to have caught up with a vast majority of youth who are in their final year of collegiate studies or those who have just passed out and are looking forward to job openings. It is very disheartening to note that as our standard of living improves, the youth’s focus in personal and professional development steadily decreases.

The initial energy and enthusiasm with which the youth enters college cannot be seen when they leave their respective colleges, indicating that they have lost focus. That is the time when they should rigorously work on their career path. Lacking focus amounts to having lost everything that is essential for their success.
As a human resource mentor, I cannot express any better about the youth’s need for sensitisation in terms of focusing on what they like and what they want in life.

The tendency to fall prey to distractions and laziness is an option available to all the youngsters. Those who keep these at a distance and work with focus, achieve success.
