It is not uncommon to see youth with high profile career openings quickly lose steam in their career and give up their jobs to take up something diametrically opposite to what they have been doing all this while, despite being qualified. A closer look would reveal that they have not been passionately engaged in their careers and have started experiencing career burnouts.
I have encountered many techies who have quit their jobs to become entrepreneurs, become freelancers, or take up the family business. It is also true with candidates who are in popular jobs like teaching and government positions. Many return to their native place and settle down doing what they like at their own free will. This trend — of youngsters and mid-level career professionals taking a U turn — is steadily gaining steam.
There can be many reasons behind their decision to plunge into their own world of choice, one of them possibly being they would have found out what their real passion is. But can passion pay well? The answer is — ‘Yes, for those who believe and work with their passion constructively’.
What needs to be underscored here as a vital point is that the experts and professionals who get paid handsomely with due recognition are those who work diligently on their passions to make a career out of it. The youth, especially during the formative years of education, must be inculcated with the art of creating a ‘portfolio of passions’ that keeps burning in them. It could actually provide them a springboard to leap with enriching success if their passions can be converted into careers.
Note the following points:
- Passion can never put you in a ‘value crisis’, since you choose to take on an activity that is aligned with your thought process.
- Passion shows you the way forward in your professional arena, based on your skills and potential.
- Career burnout would not be an issue any more when passion can pay, since you are engaged in an activity that you hold close to your heart which also keeps you inspired and encouraged.
