One of the vital skill sets that young graduates must possess to make it big in the professional world is a fair quotient of soft skills which will enhance their scope of being successful. The path towards success is always a hard journey with many ups and downs. It is in this scenario that a very critical point needs to be mentioned — the youth must learn to handle disappointments well.

Within every opportunity there is a challenge and when faced with challenges, many people tend to break if they are not able to cope with it. Disappointment is something that every person must try to handle with ease. The selection process in corporate organisations is getting more complex with every passing day and as competition is getting stiffer, it results in elimination of candidates who are found unfit. Elimination from a selection is a very bitter experience for anyone, particularly for the young graduates who are tender in age and experience. However, it is not something that cannot be handled by them.

As a human resource mentor, I come across many young graduates who become shattered when they face disappointment. I would always think that with proper mentoring and insightful sensitisation, they can overcome the unpleasantness that they experience. Here are some ways that you can make use of to effectively handle disappointments in a professional environment.
Calm your mind with the thought that disappointments can happen to anyone, it is not only happening to you.

Take it as a time to reflect as to how you can improve yourself for the next opportunity.
Make a journal of points that comes to your mind as to how you feel when you are not successful and work on each point with positivity.
Do not cry or brood over elimination, instead try to get some good sleep.
Never try to compare and contrast yourself with others who have been successful or even question their credentials.

Be Calm
Do not project yourself as a lost person with awkward mannerisms; be composed

Positive Vibes
Reinforce your mind with positive thoughts. This too shall pass

heed advice
Talk to superiors or friends. Take their comments/opinions in your stride
