Shivprasad Arvind Tingare, a science teacher at Sainik School Satara, has been selected for the National Teachers’ Award 2026. He is among 48 school teachers selected from across India for this year’s award.
The award will be presented by President Droupadi Murmu on September 5, Teachers’ Day. The selection was conducted through a three-stage process at the district, state and national levels.
Tingare, 44, has been teaching at Sainik School Satara for the past nine years. His approach to science education has focused on getting students to apply scientific concepts to practical problems.
Students under his guidance have worked on several science and innovation projects. These include a ‘nutristove’, a rotary burner designed to retain the nutritional value of food while cooking, and a 2017 concept for artificial gills aimed at extracting oxygen from water for divers. Students have also developed an auto-inflating jacket for flood rescue operations.
Tingare has also developed a learning-enabled revision module designed to help students understand concepts through activities and encourage greater interest in science.
His students have received recognition for their projects. Two were felicitated by former President Ramnath Kovind in 2017 for their scientific models. One student later travelled to Japan to showcase an adjustable study bench that could be converted into a sofa and used to transform a classroom into a conference space.
In 2025, three of his students secured first place at the state-level Viksit Bharat Buildathon with a model based on generating electricity through sound-based energy harvesting.
Tingare is originally from Vita in Sangli district, where he studied in schools run by the Rayat Shikshan Sanstha before joining Sainik School Satara. He is currently pursuing a PhD related to agricultural crops.
Tingare is listed as awardee number 38 in the Ministry of Education’s official list of the 48 National Teachers’ Award recipients for 2026, under Sainik Schools administered by the Ministry of Defence.
