PUDUCHERRY: Puducherry underscored a significant milestone this year after 33 students from government schools secured admission to medical colleges under the 10% horizontal reservation.

“Most of these students are children of daily wage earners. Our government has helped turn their dream of pursuing medical education into reality,” said Puducherry Chief Minister N Rangasamy while speaking at the Children’s Day event organised by the Directorate of School Education in Kamaraj Manimandapam on Friday.

He added that the UT now provides opportunities for all its children to pursue higher education and urged parents to play an active role in guiding their children’s educational and artistic aspirations.

Highlighting the government’s initiatives in school education, Rangasamy said Puducherry provides free and quality education from kindergarten to Class 12.

He also noted that seven athletes who excelled in their disciplines have been appointed to government jobs under the sports quota. School Education Director Aman Sharma, and Joint Director V Sivagami were present at the event.
