The Gujarat State Board of School Textbooks has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Amazon to make state-board textbooks available to students through online ordering and doorstep delivery. The agreement was signed in Gandhinagar in the presence of Gujarat Education Minister Pradyuman Vaja.
Under the arrangement, students and parents will be able to order textbooks for their required class through Amazon. The state board has described the initiative as “Books to Students with Just One Click”, with the objective of making textbooks available more easily and reducing difficulties in obtaining physical copies.
The delivery charge for the textbooks will be waived under the arrangement. The move is intended to make the procurement of textbooks more convenient, particularly for parents who currently have to purchase books through physical outlets.
The initiative comes as Gujarat continues to distribute textbooks through its existing government system. For the 2026-27 academic year, the Centre's Project Approval Board records Gujarat's provision of free textbooks to more than 38 lakh children, including books in Braille and large-print formats.
The new Amazon arrangement is aimed at a different requirement, allowing private-school students and other buyers to access state-board textbooks through an online platform.
The move follows a similar initiative at the national level. In 2024, the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) partnered with Amazon to make original NCERT textbooks available through an Amazon storefront at prices not exceeding the printed price. The Ministry of Education said the arrangement was intended to address supply gaps and improve access to textbooks through Amazon's delivery network.
