NEW DELHI: Mayor Raja Iqbal Singh on Thursday flagged off a new fleet of vehicles procured by the Municipal Corporation of Delhi to strengthen sanitation services and improve waterlogging response. The fleet includes 16 backhoe loaders, two CNG-powered flood control emergency vehicles, and six mechanical road sweepers.
Addressing the event, the Mayor said the government is committed to making Delhi clean, healthy and green, adding this marks the second phase of induction of advanced machinery into the MCD fleet. He expressed confidence that residents will not face severe waterlogging in the upcoming monsoon.
Highlighting rising urban flooding due to heavy rains, poor drainage and rapid urbanisation, he said each flood control vehicle can pump out up to 10,000 litres of water per minute, enabling faster response and reducing disruption.
The road sweepers, with a 4.5 cubic metre capacity, will help control dust pollution and improve worker safety by reducing manual sweeping. The newly added loaders will speed up waste handling and minimise manual effort.
