The University Grants Commission (UGC) has approved funds for the Jamia Millia Islamia which has allegedly been pending for around three years. Even though the funds have been sanctioned they have not been received by the university from the University Grants Commission (UGC) yet.

The allocation has been made for the Seventh Central Pay Commission arrears and promotion arrears, retirement benefits, gratuity, LTC, education reimbursement and medical reimbursement, property tax grants and pending salary deficit. "The CPC payments have been pending for three years while the staff has not received the retirement benefit and other allowances for the past seven to eight months," said Dr Majid Jamil of the Teachers' Association. "Jamia had some over-expenditures from before. And these funds will help bridge that gap," he added.

The university officials, when contacted, said that they will release the details of the allocation and the arrears soon. "Sanctions for the above mentioned items have been received. However, payment will be made only on receipt of funds from UGC," said the statement from Dr Nazim Hussain Al-Jafri. It also thanked the Vice-Chancellor and the officials involved for their efforts along with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal and UGC Chairman and related officials.
