Once again, Karnataka's Department of Primary and Secondary Education has decided to promote Class 1 to 9 students based on their marks scored in the class tests and projects assigned at schools. The department has sent a set of guidelines to the schools across Karnataka stating that this decision has been taken to reduce the stress on students as the classes were conducted only through online mode or through DD Chandana.

For SSLC students, the department stated that the schools can consider the highest marks scored in two Formative Assessments (FA) if the schools have already conducted the FAs. They have also been instructed to consider marks of four different projects out of eight. If the schools haven't conducted FA exams, they are free to conduct these exams in the month of February and March.

As per the department's guidelines, for Class 1 to 5 students, the schools have to consider marks of one Formative Assessment and one Summative Assessment (SA) instead of considering marks of two FA and one SA respectively. For Class 6 to 9 students, the teachers can consider the lessons that are going to be in the textbooks for the next academic year. As the classes are not regular and the Vidyagama classes are being held on alternate days or thrice a week, the schools can take independent decisions on the number of lessons that has to be considered for exams at the school level.

The department stated that if the schools have already conducted FA 1, 2, 3 and 4 then the marks of two FAs can be considered for the promotion of children to the next class. In case the schools are yet to conduct the exams, then can conduct one FA and one SA and consider these marks for the promotion.

Here is the timetable for First Assessment and Second Assessment exams for Class 6 to 9 students

First FA for 10 marks in February third week

Second FA for 10 marks in April fourth week

SA for 30 marks in the last week of May

Final results by June second week

For SSLC students

First FA in February last week

Second FA in April third week

and subject-wise Projects from January to April
