TNEA 2020: Here’s everything you need to know about Tamil Nadu Engineering Admissions going online

With the Tamil Nadu Engineering Admissions 2020 going completely online this year including registration, payments, choice filling, allotment and confirmation, students have to be geared with all the information they need with regard to their counselling. The Tamil Nadu Higher Education Minister K P Anbalagan on Monday released the merit list for the TNEA 2020 and announced that the online counselling for the general quota will start on October 8 and go on till October 27. 

The counselling for the general quota students will be held in four rounds. Counselling for Special Reservation Categories — differently-abled, ex-servicepersons and sports quota would be held between October 1-5. 

After the rank list is out the following processes take place — 1) Payment of the Initial Deposit, 2) Exercising the choices of institutions and branches, 3) Publication of Tentative Allotment on a notified date 4) Confirmation of allotment option 5) Final Allotment of Institutions and Branch 6) Finally reporting to the allotted institutions at specified date 7) Supplementary Counselling (In Person) and 8) SCA to SC counselling (In Person)

For the Special Category candidates, the payment last date is on October 2 — the fees is Rs 5000 for OBC, MBC, BMC, OC and Rs 1000 for SC, SCA, ST. Between October 2-4, they have time to file their choices and on fifth, the tentative allotment and confirmation of tentative allotment. On October 6, the provisional allotment list would be released. 

The candidates must be ready for the counseling with the following details — Community, caste details, certificates to avail special reservation, details of registration fees to be paid online - credit/debit card details, demand draft receipt, Aadhaar number, parent’s income, school details from 8-10 standard, 12th standard marksheet registration number, 12th standard marksheet, scholarship application.

The candidates have been directed to visit the official website frequently during the entire counselling process and login from time to time to know the status of their application. They are also requested to make a note of various deadlines in each stage. Candidates are also requested to read and follow the instructions given in the official website www.tneaonline.org and strictly follow them for successful completion of online counseling process.

This year the ranks were released for a total of 1,12,406 candidates, while the total number of seats available through the government quota is 1,63,154. This means that there are 31 per cent more seats submitted for the counselling than the number of candidates. The rank list was issued after a nearly 20-day wait from when it was originally expected. The rank list was due on September 7 but since the revaluation results were only supposed to be out by September 8, the rank list was postponed to September 17.
