The Rotary Club of Chennai Galaxy will be conducting an online Science and Technology Quiz for students from Classes 9 to 12 on November 1, 2020. This is the fourth edition of the competition and in the past three years, it was conducted in Chennai across schools. This year due to the COVID-19 pandemic the quiz is being conducted online and students from all over India can participate. Approximately around 3000 kids have already registered and the last date is October 28, 2020.

"We have been planning this for the past six months and we thought the situation would get better. However, the schools haven't reopened yet, so we finally decided to conduct it online. From next year we might actually do it online as well as in schools here once everything is back to normal," Anshul Agarwal, Chairman of the event tells us.

Galaxy Science and Technology Quiz is conducted for students every year and is aimed at increasing the awareness of students about the latest advances in science and technology. The club has partnered with the Quiz Foundation of India for the competition. "Every time it is a team event but this time it is a solo event. Every year more than a thousand students participate from various schools in the city, but due to the pandemic, we decided to conduct it online. The preliminary round will be at 10 am and the final round, where the top 100 will compete, is at 5 pm on Sunday. The quiz competition is based on how fast a child can answer a question, for example, if 30 seconds is allocated for a specific question and a child keys in the answer in 10 seconds, another in 20 seconds, the child who took 10 seconds will naturally secure more points in that question or round. It's all about the timing. We have tied up with the Quiz Foundation of India and the quiz will be conducted on an online app and the finals on Zoom. We are not charging any registration fees. Prizes worth three lakhs including gaming desktops, laptops, tabs and more will be given out to the winners," adds the chairman.
Dr Navin Jayakumar from the Quiz Foundation of India will be the quizmaster at the online event.
