The online inauguration function of the newly constructed plus-two block of the Government Vocational Higher Secondary school in Mundery near here scheduled for Thursday was stopped as the organizers had not sought the prior approval of the Kerala government.

Wayanad MP and former AICC President Rahul Gandhi was supposed to inaugurate, through video conferencing, the newly constructed plus-two block of the Government Vocational Higher Secondary school. However the district officials issued orders to suspend it.

The new building was constructed under the Multi Sectoral Development Programme (MSDP) and was constructed by Nirmithi Kendra at a cost of Rs. 1.2 crore. According to sources, both the Central and state government pooled funds for the construction in the ratio 60:40 percent, respectively, sources said.

Pointing out a recent circular seeking prior approval of the state government for all project launching and inauguration functions, the programme that was scheduled for 10.30 this morning was suspended abruptly. Now the organizers will have to approach the district Collector and get approval to hold the inauguration. This was the first ever virtual inauguration by the Wayanad MP since restrictions on gatherings and public meetings were imposed on account of the Covid-19 pandemic.
