University of Mysore to set up SP Balasubrahmanyam study chair in legend's honour

In a major decision which would help art aficionados' and music lovers to study and make them aware about the works, contribution of singer S P Balasubrahmanyam, passed away recently, the University of Mysore has decided to set up S P Balasubrahmanyam study chair.

The decision was taken at the syndicate meeting of the University of Mysore. Sources who took part in the meeting revealed that a syndicate member had recently sent a letter in this regard and the subject was taken during the meeting. -"The members gave consent to this proposal and said that the study chair would help to reach the achievements of SPB to the art lovers and also document the contribution of SPB in the field of music," a syndicate member said.

Confirming this to TNIE, UoM registrar R Shivappa said that Rs 5 lakh has been earmarked to set up the study chair which will be used to conduct lectures, workshops and seminars. "Noted musician Hamsalekha has been appointed as the visiting Faculty," he said.
