After banning 59 Chinese mobile apps on June 19, including social media app TikTok, and further banning another 118 apps, including the very popular game PUBG, on September 2, the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology today further banned another 43 mobile apps developed in China.
Among them is the very popular Chinese shopping app AliExpress, developed by billionaire Jack Ma's Alibaba. Other Alibaba apps like Alipay Cashier and Alibaba Workbench have also been banned by the government. Several other dating apps, including WeDate and games like Happy Fish, have also been banned for Indian users.
Banned through an order under section 69A of the Information Technology Act, the ministry stated that this action was taken based on the inputs regarding these apps for engaging in activities which are prejudicial to sovereignty and integrity of India, defence of India, the security of the state and public order. The apps were blocked based on the comprehensive reports received from the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Center, Ministry of Home Affairs.
