A few days ago, three advocates, namely U T Prashanth, M Lokesh and M K Prithveesh, had filed a Public Interest Litigation against the Government of Karnataka asking them not to conduct the SSLC exams till the COVID-19 crisis had passed. Yesterday, the High Court of Karnataka rejected the plea and agreed with the decision of the Suresh Kumar S, Primary and Secondary Education Minister to conduct the SSLC exams from June 25.
However, the High Court has directed both the health and education department to be present at every examination centre and see that proper precautions are taken to avoid children and teachers coming in contact with the virus. Students have to maintain social distance once they enter the exam centre, a separate sanitiser bottle must be given to each student and they must wear a mask mandatorily. On May 26, 2020, the first board-level exam in India had already begun.
Meanwhile, the state government has also issued a separate circular mentioning that students who come from districts which share a border with the neighbouring states can come and write the exams at the centre. In case, they are unable to travel and write the exams, then those students will be allowed to attend these exams during the supplementary exams. But it will be considered as the first attempt for such students.
