HOD of Chemistry Dept, P Wilson declared new Principal of Madras Christian College, Chennai

Wilson will take over as the Principal on June 1, 2020 and will from immediate effect be the Principal-Designate

After months of anticipation, the new Principal of Madras Christian College was announced on Wednesday - Dr P Wilson, the Head of the Chemistry Department will now take over from Dr RW Alexander Jesudasan. The professor has been a part of the MCC faculty for 16 years.

"I am pleased to announced that Dr P Wilson, the Head of the Department of Chemistry has been appointed at the Madras Christian College Association with effect from the forenoon of June 1 and will be the Principal-designate with immediate effect," Jesudasan said in a letter.

Wilson graduated from Loyola College with a Masters in General Chemistry in 1991 and went to pursue his PhD from IIT, Madras. After which, he became a 

Post Doctoral Fellow at the Ben-Gurion University of the Negev, Israel. Wilson started his teaching career at the Bishop Heber College in Trichy in 1993 teaching undergraduate students in the Chemistry department. After a stint at the St Joseph's College of Engineering, the professor moved to Madras Christian College in 2004.

Wilson assumed the office of the Head of the Department in 2015 and the year 2016, witnessed major refurbishment of the undergraduate and postgraduate leading to the advanced and state of the art laboratories. Wilson is also credited for drafting a proposal for DST-FIST funding in the year 2004. Consequently, the department was recognised as a DST-FIST sponsored department in the year 2005 and received Rs 32,00,000 as a grant to develop the infrastructure for teaching and research.

Dr. Jesudasan joined the MCC as faculty in the year 1986, and in two years ago became the head of the zoology department. In June 2009, he took over as the principal of the college and served as the Principal for 11 years.
