One of the major challenges that the governments and health officials across the country have been facing is identifying people who were in the vicinity of people who were tested COVID-19 positive. This becomes extremely challenging in a country with an enormous population like India.

However, Sona College of Technology and Vee Technologies have now come up with two apps that could make the identification process much simpler. While the first app Corona-Scan allows public health officials to map individuals who were in close proximity with a possibly infected or active Coronavirus patient, the second one, Corona-Support asks the public to enter their details voluntarily and share their location. Details entered here will help the officials monitor the movement of the public and identify people to be quarantined easily.

The brain behind these apps is Chocko Valliappa, CEO, Vee Technologies. He says that it took him and his team around two weeks to develop the apps. "I was reading about the news of a COVID-19 positive pilot in LA and how they were trying to find out the people he was in contact with. Similar was the case with the 71-year-old patient in Kalaburgi. Now, this becomes difficult when someone travels extensively using public transport. So, I thought, why not develop an app like this," says Valiappa. "Our phones automatically have our location. So I thought, why not track it and use it for the greater good," he says. "Every two minutes, it picks your location and sends it to a server," he adds. Three students of Sona College of Technology -- Bernotsha, Aravind Kumar and Naveen Kumar also worked with Valiappa to develop the app.

The beta versions of the apps was tested successfully and it will soon be available to download in the Google Play Store. They will soon be entered in the https://innovate.mygov.in/covid19/ competition announced by the Prime Minister. Valliappa also tells us that the NSDC is planning to roll the app to all the skill development centres in the country.
