Konyak Students' Union of Nagaland bans entry of tourists

The Konyak Students' Union (KSU), a students' body under Mon district of Nagaland has announced its decision to completely restrict both foreign and domestic tourists to entering in this district in view of the spread of Coronavirus (COVID-19).

In a press release issued by KSU President Bumang Phaiba and General Secretary Phoe Konyak said the resolution to this effect was taken at an emergency meeting of the union held on March 10 last, where it has resolved to requested the concerned law enforcing authority and district administration to ensure public safety by 'checking tourists entering Mon district, especially ahead of upcoming Aoleang Festival'.

It has also appealed to the State Government to take up preventive measures and the "medical staff" in the district to be stationed at their posting places. 'Public is also advised to avoid travelling to other districts/state/country during this critical situation,' the press release said.

Earlier, on March 7, the Konyak Union (KU) of Mon district of Nagaland has voiced concerns regarding outburst of the Coronavirus and ordered a ban on the inflow of foreign and national tourists to Mon district particularly during Konyak Aoleng festival, the annual 'Spring Festival' of the Konyak Naga tribe celebrate in the first week of April.

In a release, Konyak Union General Secretary Wango Konyak and Press Secretary Pangmei Konyak had expressed concern over the speared of Corona virus (Covid-19) in the country and around the globe and urged the responsible authority and the Government to take immediate precautionary measures.

KU also urged the Government to ban the inflow of foreign and national tourist to Mon district, particularly during Konyak Aoleng festival. The KU has requested the District Executive Force of Police Department and the district administration to strictly monitor and check at every entry point of the district.
