The  Human Resource Development Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal announced on Friday that the JEE Main 2020 examination will now be held between September 1 to 6, while JEE advanced exam will be held on September 27. NEET 2020 examination will be held on September 13, he said, through a video message across all his social media accounts.

"Keeping in mind the safety of students and to ensure quality education we have decided to postpone #JEE & #NEET examinations. JEE Main examination will be held between 1st-6th Sept, JEE advanced exam will be held on 27th Sept & NEET examination will be held on 13th Sept," Pokhyriyal wrote on Twitter.

"Looking at the prevailing circumstances and requests received from students and parents appearing for JEE/NEET examinations, a committee consisting of the National Testing Agency and other experts have been advised to review the situation and submit its recommendations to the MHRD latest by July 3," Pokhriyal had said on Thursday.

The HRD Ministry had said that it will take a final call on whether to conduct the exams or to postpone them based on the report submitted. In a video posted on his official Twitter handle, Pokhriyal stated that he had instructed the NTA Director-General Vineet Joshi to form a committee to review the current situation and assess the students’ demands to postpone the exams. “I have received repeated messages on my social media handles, emails and through the Ministry’s official notifications from students, parents and administrators to postpone the NEET and JEE exams considering the present circumstances,” said Pokhriyal.

Talking about his request to the NTA regarding the exams, Pokhriyal had stated, “I had previously asked the Director-General and his team to form a committee and review the current situation, discuss among themselves, judge all parameters before submitting their recommendation so that we can make a firm decision."

Following the cancellation of the CBSE and ICSE exams last week, there was still a cloud of mystery around the JEE Main 2020 examination scheduled to be held from July 18 to July 23, and NEET UG scheduled for July 26. The Ministry of Human Resource Development and the National Testing Agency (NTA) were expected to issue an update on the status of the exam soon, as students waited with bated breath.

Numerous parents have also written to the Ministry of Health to request the postponement of exams further which are scheduled for July. According to news reports, in the letters that the parents wrote, it is reportedly suggested that exposing students is a direct threat to the wellbeing of the family.
