The Kerala Government's General Education Department, on Monday, screened a nine-and-a-half-minute-long video on the Coronavirus in all the government and government-aided schools in Kerala — to create awareness and avoid panic among the students. The video was broadcast via VICTERS, a TV channel run by the Kerala Infrastructure and Technology for Education (KITE) intitative.

"The aim here was to make students aware of what the virus is and avoid unnecessary panic among them. We also want to bust a lot of myths and fake news around this," says K Anvar Sadath, CEO, KITE. He also adds that the department will screen a longer and more informative video about the virus soon. "This video was prepared in a jiffy, considering the current situation. The health department had passed it on to us. KITE will, however, soon make a better video," he says. All three cases of Coronavirus in India have been reported in Kerala. All the patients are students from Wuhan in China. The patients are from Thrissur, Alappuzha and Kasargode respectively.

The video, explains the symptoms, precautions and the way the virus spreads from one person to another. It also shows an Indian student who had returned from China for holidays and is under home quarantine. "I was asked by the health officials to not share food, clothes or other personal items. I've also been asked to avoid meeting people and maintain no close physical contact with anyone," he is heard saying. "I consider this a social responsibility," the student in the video adds.

Here are a few steps that you can take to protect yourself from the deadly virus:
1) Use tissues/ kerchief while you sneeze or cough
2) Wash your hands with soap for 20 seconds
3) Wear masks if you're infected
4) Avoid contact with people who've come from countries affected by the coronavirus
5) Do not travel to these countries
5) Cook meat and fish properly before consuming
