Regular yoga classes to be conducted in Karnataka schools, colleges as they reopen from January

During the scheduled classroom hours, half an hour will be spent on Yoga training and practise at schools and colleges in Shivamogga

In view of the commencement of schools and colleges in the state from January 1, 2021, everyday yoga will be taught to the wards, said K S Eshwarappa, RDPR minister of Karnataka. Presiding over the preparatory meeting organised before the commencement of schools and colleges in the state on Thursday, he asked institutions "to adhere to the standard operating procedures (SOP) in all the schools and to improve the physical health of the wards. Yoga will be taught and practised regularly in schools and colleges. Services of the trained physical education teachers, yoga teachers from local yoga centres would be utilised." 

A day-long Yoga education training will be imparted to teachers and a curriculum of regular yoga for 30 minutes will be scheduled, he said. The minister said schools will remain open from morning to afternoon for 10th standard students and Vidyagama will be held on alternate days from afternoon to evening for 8th and 9th standard wards.

During this scheduled classroom hours, half an hour will be spent for Yoga training and practise, said Eshwarappa. The Minister directed the corporation commissioner to provide temporary toilet facilities in those schools where toilets damaged during the rainy season in the city, he said.

Eshwarappa said the concerned officers directed to repair those 340 Anganwadi buildings in Shivamogga and Bhadravathi taluks. Apart from this, there is a demand to construct 126 new Anganwadis and suitable action would be taken in this issue, he said. Minister Eshwarappa said a lot of complaints being received about the work of medical officers and staff of Mc Gann hospital. Appropriate action would be taken after getting a report from the administrative officer of SIMS, he said. Deputy commissioner KB Sivakumar, chief executive officer of ZP M L Vaishali, additional deputy commissioner G Anuradha and other department heads were present.
