Union Education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal announced on December 16 that the first phase of the JEE Main 2021 will start from February 23 and go on till 26. JEE Main will be held four times from next year — in February, March, April and May. The exam will be held in 13 languages this time including Tamil, Telegu, Assamese and Bengali. Keeping in mind the fact that the syllabus has been reduced, NTA has decided to offer choices to the students.

The minister, in a live address to the country's students, parents and teachers, wished them best of luck and announced the dates. There are a few updates to the exam format this year. "A total of 90 questions will be asked out of which 75 questions will have to be attempted. JEE Main 2021 exam will be conducted in February, March, April and May 2021. NTA will conduct the exam and students can choose any of the four examinations as per their convenience. The exam in February would be conducted from February 23 to February 26, 2021," said Pokhriyal. "The decision to provide multiple exam dates is to ensure that students can improve their score. Also, in case one of the JEE Main 2021 exam clashes with the board exam 2021, then the student can appear for another exam," he added.

In a first, JEE Main 2021 will be held in 13 languages -- English, Hindi, Assamese, Bengali, Gujarati, Kannada, Marathi, Malayalam, Odia, Punjabi, Tamil, Telugu and Urdu, said the Education Minister. "The best marks will be used for ranking," he added. "Even if a student appears in all the four sessions, his or her best marks out of the four exams will be considered for the result," he said.
