Two engineering students died in an accident when the bike they were riding crashed into a road divider at Dundigal late on Saturday night. Police found Ganja weighing 1 kg in the victim's possession.

The bike belonged to one of the victims, Goparaju Sujith Kumar, whose parents gifted it to him on his birthday on December 2. Another victim has been identified as Ananth Vishal.

A Venkatesham, Inspector Dundigal police station said that a case of accidental death has been registered. NDPS Act charges were also included as ganja was found in their possession. "It is suspected that they had collected a ganja parcel from someone and were returning to the hostel when they met with the accident. We are also probing to identify from whom they collected the parcel," he said.

Sujith (23) from Mancherial district and Vishal(23) from Kamareddy district were final year engineering students in a reputed college in Hyderabad and were residing in separate private hostels. While it is not clear when they left their hostels on Saturday, they met with an accident late on Saturday night.

Due to over speeding, Sujith, who was riding the bike could have lost control and crashed into the divider on the right, said the police. Due to the impact, the duo were flung in the air and landed on the road on the other side of the divider. Both of them sustained severe injuries and died on the spot.

Sujith's father Goparaju Kumar told TNIE that he was their only son. He had celebrated his birthday on December 2 and wanted to come home. But as he has an examination on December 8, Kumar told Sujith that he can come home after that. "My sister's family resides at Hi-tech city and they celebrated his birthday at their home. We watched the celebration live from our home at Mancherial," he said, adding that they had bought him a new bike for his birthday.
