UoH, IISc, NIT-C stand tall amidst sea of IITs in ARIIA 2020 rankings for innovation

The Aligarh Muslim University came in 11th on the list. Banaras Hindu University and IIM Kozhikode came in at 13 and 16 respectively

Three non-IIT institutions made it to the top ten in the government and central university category of the Atal Ranking of Institutions of Innovation Achievements’ Institutes of National Importance list released on Tuesday. The Ministry of Education initiated ARIIA to systematically rank education institutions and universities primarily on innovation related indicators. This year though, three non-IIT campuses also made it to the top ten — Indian Institute of Science, Bengaluru, National Institute of Technology, Calicut and the University of Hyderabad, which became the only Central University to be ranked in the top ten.

The other IITs to figure in the list are IIT Bombay at number two, IIT Delhi comes in next, IIT Kharagpur, IIT Kanpur and IIT Mandi take the fifth, sixth and seventh place respectively and IIT Rourkee comes in at the ninth place. The University of Hyderabad takes the tenth place in the ranking. Prof. G S Prasad Director TIE-U expressed his happiness at the achievement of the university and thanked all the colleagues involved in creating and expanding the innovation ecosystem in the university for their support in achieving the rank.

Responding to this ranking, Prof. Appa Rao Podile, Vice Chancellor, UoH said, “I am happy that UoH is the only Central University to be ranked in the Top Ten of ARIIA ranking 2020. This will inspire us to encourage high quality research, innovation and entrepreneurship. More than quantity, we will focus on the quality of innovations and will try to measure the real impact created by these innovations nationally and internationally”. “This will also set the tone and direction for UoH for future development of the university to be globally competitive and be in the forefront of innovation”, he added. The Aligarh Muslim University came in 11th on the list. Banaras Hindu University and IIM Kozhikode came in at 13 and 16 respectively.

ARIIA considers all major indicators which are commonly used globally to rank most innovative education institutions/ universities in the world. ARIIA rankings are now getting a wide acceptance among Higher Education Institutes in India. The Ministry states that ARIIA aims at setting direction for institutions for future development for making them globally competitive and in forefront of innovation.
