IIMC should take lead in revising Journalism, Mass Communication: Amit Khare

The Higher Education Secretary also spoke about the need for imbibing the technological provisions needed for a better world view

The Indian Institute of Mass Communication (IIMC) should take the lead in revising, updating and tech-driving journalism and mass communication studies,

said Amit Khare, Higher Education Secretary. Khare, who also serves as the Secretary for Information & Broadcasting and Chairman, IIMC, delivered the 56th Foundation Day Lecture. 

A series of online events were organized at the regional centers across the country and also at the headquarters in Delhi. Khare spoke on 'National Education Policy (NEP) - Philosophy and Guiding Principles, and what it augers for Communication Education in the Country'.

In light of the NEP, Khare nudged IIMC to take a lead in revising Journalism and Mass Communication in consultation with the Central as well as State Universities. He further emphasised on technology-driven education and creation of online courses in the emerging areas of journalism and mass communication, producing content for national educational platforms. He stressed upon the industry-oriented training of the media students, developing a better “world view”.

Khare also suggested that IIMC should collaborate with the leading institutions like ICSSR, JNU for research and training. DG, IIMC Prof Sanjay Dwivedi and ADG K Satish Nambudripad, were part of the event.
