COVID-19: School and college teachers to start online classes from May 4 in Tripura

Tripura government has directed all school and college teachers to conduct neighbourhood classes besides, holding online lectures on a daily basis, as it has been decided all educational institutions would remain to be closed till May 31 next if the present situation continues.

Education Minister Ratan Lal Nath along with the Vice-Chancellor of Tripura Central University and MBB State University yesterday held a video conference with the principals of all government degree colleges and technical institutions directing them to start rigorous online classes and engage the college teachers to go for neighbourhood classes in their respective localities.

"The teachers of colleges from tomorrow would record their semester wise topic-based lecture and share it to the respective social media group and it would be interactive. The student would seek clarification on the lecture or teachers can ask the question from students on the topic to make the classes meaningful," Nath explained.

He mentioned that earlier, the state education department had recorded classes of the full syllabus for school level students, which has now been telecast through local cable channels and also available in YouTube.

The students have been benefited from these lectures because, the best teachers of the subject concerns were picked up for holding the video classes. As a result, it has given the extra opportunity for the students to attend the same quality classes and get the notes. Now, in the neighbourhood classes, the teachers would clarify the doubts and continue the lesson at least for one month and help them to write exams on time, Nath stated.

He stated if Corona situation remains under control, physical classes are concerned and educational institutions will begin in June and said, "I held a discussion relating to resuming physical classes in these 34 institutions with VCs of both the Universities and Principals and exams could be held in July.

" Nath said that the concern teachers of the online class would have to submit detailed reports on a daily basis to VCs and the education department.

The MBB College which is affiliated with MBB University is all set to introduce job-oriented courses like PG Diploma in GST management, Retail, and Sales management, Spanish as a foreign language and integrated masters' degree in commerce and industry from this year.
