Among the top 100 engineering colleges in the country, 18 are from Tamil Nadu, according to the National Institute Ranking Framework (NIRF) rankings, 2020. HRD Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank announced the NIRF rankings via a webcast on Thursday.
The top education institution of the country is IIT Madras along with being the best engineering college in the country for the fifth time in a row. National Institute of Technology Tiruchirappalli is the only other engineering college in the top 10 from Tamil Nadu, ranked 9. Anna University, Vellore Institute of Technology and Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham made it to the top 20 engineering colleges, ranked 14, 15 and 20 respectively.
A total of 188 engineering colleges participated from Tamil Nadu in the NIRF rankings this year. However, 21 engineering colleges had made it to the top 100 engineering colleges list last year. Kongu Engineering College in Perundurai and Hindustan Institute of Technology and Science, Chennai dropped out of the top 100, while Bannari Amman Institute of Technology in Sathyamangalam did not even make it to the top 200 list.
