This year's Students Union election at University College, Thiruvananthapuram was indeed historic. After a span of 18 years, the college had witnessed a democratic election where various student political organisations took part. The result was, however, not very surprising. Despite having a competition, the SFI made a clean sweep.

The latest numbers show that the organisation has managed to sweep all the posts. The Chairman of the new union is Jobin Jose who won with a majority of 1083 votes. The Vice-Chairperson is Arya Chandran G. The University Union Councillors are Vineesh Shaji and Anju B, Akhbar Sha V S is the General Secretary, Sachu Rajappan is the Arts Club Secretary and Sumaya H is the I PG Representative. All of them, except Sumaya had landslide victories. She was fighting the polls against AISF's transgender candidate Nadira Mehrin.

While SFI was the only student political organisations to exist in the campus for 18 years straight, following a number of controversies and a suspected murder attempt, its former unit was disbanded by the SFI National President V P Sanu. Following the same, a new SFI unit was formed. The Congress-affiliated KSU and CPI-affiliated AISF also opened their units in the college.
