Opposition parties have started rallying behind the 'victim' woman in the Chinmayanand case.

Senior CPI(M) leader Brinda Karat on Thursday met the jailed woman at the Shahjahanpur district jail and inquired about the incident.

The CPI(M) leader alleged that the 'victim' woman has been implicated in the case by the UP police on the directive of some senior politicians of the state.

On the other hand, Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav has attacked the BJP government in Uttar Pradesh over the arrest of the law student in the extortion case involving Swami Chinmayanand.

In a tweet on Thursday, Yadav said that the BJP had shown their "true face" by arresting the student who spoke against its leader.

"Today all the daughters, sisters and mothers of the country are unhappy with BJP, but some people are saying All is well in country, this is shameful," he said.

He alleged that the party's slogan of 'Beti Bachao' has proved to be just another "jumla".

Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Thursday hit out at the Yogi Adityanath government in Uttar Pradesh over the arrest of the student who has accused former Union minister Swami Chinmayanand of rape, and asked if this is the BJP's justice.

The law student was on Wednesday arrested on charges of extortion and sent to 14-day judicial custody.

Hours later, her bail plea was rejected. "Unnao rape case: Victim's father is killed. Victim's uncle is arrested. Following massive public pressure and after 13 months, accused MLA arrested. Attempt to kill the victim's family. Shahjahanpur rape case: Victim arrested. Victim's family being pressured," Priyanka Gandhi said in a tweet.

Police deliberately delayed action against accused BJP leader and it was after public pressure that they arrested him, said the Congress general secretary in-charge of eastern UP.

"Even the charge of rape has not been put on the accused BJP leader. This is BJP's justice?" she said.

The Shahjahanpur girl was sent to judicial custody for 14 days on Wednesday morning after she was arrested by a Special Investigation Team (SIT) in the extortion case involving the former Union Minister.

The SIT on Tuesday arrested two others accused - Sachin and Vikram - for further investigation.

The team had earlier booked three of the law student's friends after questioning them in connection to a video clip in which they were purportedly discussing extortion.

According to SIT chief Naveen Arora, the three had accepted their involvement in the extortion case, although the law student had denied the charges.

Arora said during the interrogation, the three youths have claimed that the 'victim' girl was the main conspirator in the extortion.
